Canada 'committed' to Haiti

During the United Nations Security Council’s first Haiti debate in three years today, the Montreal Gazette reports, Canada will reaffirm its commitment to helping Haiti, and will also push for better monitoring of progress in the country. Haiti is the second largest destination for aid from Canada after Afghanistan.

The Gazette says “[t]he Canadian presentation will note that, despite death and destruction last year from successive hurricanes, and food riots that toppled the government, there have still been some ‘successes’ in the Caribbean republic, justifying continued Canadian and international help.”
